Teaching elementary PE today. It is always fun to get to see kids outside of the classroom being able to just be kids! The smiles on their faces and all the laughter brings so much joy to my day! I love being a teacher!

What a breath of fresh air it was to have a different new barista working with me! I can't even call it "training" because she has been doing this as long as I have and knows how to do everything already! So thankful for her! This means I can stay home a couple of days a week and work on other things that I never have time for, right? Well, sort of. My goal was to clean one room of the house every day this week, thinking that was a very simple goal. I have had two and a half days at home this week and I almost have MOST of my bedroom clean. Thats it. Granted, I have spend a good portion of today doing homework, but having a four month old is very demanding of my time! I feel like I just get started on something and then he wakes up. Oh well. Who cares about a clean house anyway?

On week four of training a girl to work at the coffee stand....it shouldn't take this long to train someone, in case you were wondering. It should take about three days. When someone doesn't know how to figure out 50% of $4.00, doesn't know what an inch is, has no clue what 1/2, 2/3, 3/4 or any other fraction is, cannot figure what kind of milk to use when someone orders a SOY latte, and they have regressed in their ability and knowledge in a whole month's worth of training, they should stop. How did she graduate the fourth grade? Not to mention high school! Oh well.

In case you didn't know, I get to bring my four-month old baby to work with me. You wouldn't believe how often he will be fussing or I will be talking (baby talk) to him while making a drink for a customer and they ask if I have a baby in here with me. Today I was feeling a bit sarcastic and told the lady, "No, that's just how we talk to each other here." She laughed so hard once she realized how silly her question must have sounded.
A nasty old guy just pulled up for a mocha and was severely disappointed to see a fully clothed, overweight mother was serving coffee here instead of a 100lb teenager with pasties...Sicko!

Do you ever wonder what your barista is thinking about when she makes your coffee? Do you wish you could hear what they say about you after you leave? Do you ever want to know what makes a great cup of coffee? Answers to these questions and more are what I am going to strive to answer in this blog. I have been a barista for six years and worked at four different drive-up espresso stands. What a fun job it is to be able to serve people an amazing cup of joe to get their day started on the right foot! I love seeing the smile a customer gets on their face after taking their first sip of coffee! Working in customer service doesn't always involve smiles, pleases and thank yous from your customers. No matter how rude your customers can be, you just have to learn to laugh it off and kill them with kindness!
